I'm guessing this 50 odd million pounds will be used to fund the overtime of the extra police being drafted in.

How one member of Arrse sees it ...

Can you think of any other time 3500 soldiers have been used to boost a private company's profits?

Feel free to volunteer if you think it is our duty to help out G4S's shareholders and executives.

There was a bit on sky news last night where they interviewed a member of g4s staff and he said they'd had 100,000 applications, interviewed 50,000 but only taken on 3,500.
It sounded as if they are trying to keep the wages bill down and boost the profit margin.

I have heard from a reliable source that they are paying £8.50 ph normal time and £11.50 ph overtime. No other benefits.

So anyone living outside London will have quite expensive travel to work costs plus all the fcuking about on London Transport. Then factor in the monumental costs of the refreshments at the venues and you end up with sweet FA in your pocket.

The big question that needs answering for all our troops is 'who will be managing their hours of work and tasks'?

A Quote from Fridays Telegraph

The company is contracted to provide 10,400 civilian guards. G4S says it has 4,000 staff working at venues and a further 9,000 “in the pipeline”. However, these 9,000 have to finish training, undergo security checks, be allocated rosters, be accredited and collect their uniforms.

Olympic officials privately estimate that 30 per cent of the workers will fail to turn up for work, which could create a shortfall that troops would have to fill.

Would anyone care to speculate that by Wednesday, the Press Gangs will be out and about again.

P.S. Good luck to my surrogate children who are off today, prepare to get shafted.

The company I work for provides security for a yearly sporting event, and although work such as that is not what we generally do, its a lucrative contract so we keep at it.

Every year we advertise for SIA licenced guards, and a few hundred will apply. We require a few hundred personnel to work the sites.

The vetting process is a long one for some reason, but we manage to get the right amount of personnel required.

What G4S will have to prepare for is the fact that quite a few people will not turn up on the first day, and that quite a few people will leave after a couple of days. For some reason the guards/bag checkers realise after a few days that the work is boring, and either vanish or become ill or injured, unable to work.

A lot of those recruited will be foreigners too, as a lot of our personnel are. Getting an SIA licence is cheap and we find a lot of Africans, Eastern Europeans and Nepalese region people will go for basic security work, whilst Westerners and ex-military/police will work towards being team leaders or professional Close Protection Officers.

I have a feeling that our boys will end up covering more than they are currently expecting to once the games get underway.

Thing is the lads won't be serching the bags for bombs etc... They are hunting down bottles of water and food that you aren't allowed to take into the Olympic concentraton camp. I hate the Olympics so much.

Probably yes,I worked for them years ago on leaving the mob,in a local shopping center. One of the main duties was searching any bags that came into the shopping center, the was 2 of us on the main door doing that.
I got called up to the control room & given a bollocking for not searching a womans handbag, when I was asked why I didn't search it,the answer was simple,it was my mom!
Another time I was hauled up for again not checking a handbag,Idiot supervisor asked again, why I didn't search it adding she could have had a gun in it,to which my reply was she probably did, she's an off duty RUC officer...

I'll hazard a guess your Mum was carrying.

Maybe this is the reason why ...

A 330ml bottle of Heineken, the only lager that can be served at the Games under the Dutch brewer's exclusive sponsorship deal, will cost £4.20 – the equivalent of £7.23 a pint ....

Yep, you can have a tiny expensive Beer with your McDonalds chips (because no one else is allowed to sell them) and a shed load of Cadburys chocolate. It's a great big suck off fest.

Just shows that, like how football went before it,it's more about the merchandising than the games!

It gets better...

Docklands Light Railway (DLR) staff could earn up to an extra £2,500 for working during the Olympic Games.

Serco Docklands, which operates the driver-less train service, agreed to a 25% rise in the standard overtime rate for about 550 of its employees.

The deal guarantees that staff working over the nine weeks would get a minimum of five hours overtime per week and a bonus payment of £100 per week.

Bonuses that will be taxed no doubt *rolls eyes*

Not a chance that anyone actually working it will see a penny of a bonus...same as the alleged millions of Riyals offered to coalition forces during Gulf War One, it's ruled as inappropriate and mercenary. The only way to see any of that would be if the MoD came up with a new type of allowance for everyone involved.
