Pay Rise 2009

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
On my resettlement, so well chilled and taking it easy.........but, updating myself on the thread and it hit me that we are due a pay rise in 1 week and we still don't know what it is!

Can anybody remember the days when you had managers with leadership, people you respected, people you knew were looking out for you and had your best interests at heart?

It all seems so long ago!! Worse than a joke now me's thinks!

I'd like to think that at our level we do cut the mustard but we are swamped by the promotion chasing Officer cadre who couldn't give a sh1t because they'll be out of it before their incompetence is exposed!::/:

As already mentioned in this post it'll be interesting to see if they start spouting "inflation busting" pay rises in comparison to RPI when for years they've used CPI as the benchmark. As RPI today was 0% and CPI hit 3.2% would we take that as a decent pay rise? I notice many private sector workers already on the war path saying that public sector workers should be prepared to accept low or no pay rises due to the current economic climate - funny thing is I didn't hear them saying that we should be getting better pay rises when times were good and they were raking it in whilst we were getting royally shafted!

Hear Hear ... I've been listening to 5live and some of the private sector tosh they were spouting was quite rubbish. At one point it was because the public sector included MP's that started one bloke ranting.

Conservatives "free thinkers" seem to be leaping on this bandwagon CentreRight

Couple of people here seem to know what they are talking about though and have picked holes in the argument, unfortunately public opinion is easily swayed and few in our modern world are really capable of independent thought reverting to tribalism (the press rely on it, it sell papers), the bandwagon will get leapt upon by the "free thinking" anarchists with verve and your average Joe when they need someone to blame.

The only comfort is that when these malcontents, who weren't lucid enough to realise the good times don't last forever, decide to rise up against the "public servants" they will then find out who has the guns and battons to hurt them or the bandages and plasters to fix them or the ladders and hoses to put out their fires at 3am and then imprison them for their crimes (whilst both defending and prosecuting them to the hilt) whilst paying tax credits and social to their families and then run their rehabilitation and probation only to guide them at the job centre then collect their taxes and process their passports, driving licenses, marriages, divorces and the births and deaths of their loved ones, to pay their state pension and ultimately bury them if need be and console their children and grandchildren whilst ensuring their wealth is fairly redistributed. Try this for size in order to vent your spleen(Sp) or anger which ever you prefer. http://www.theyworkforyou.com/

This is link to find you local MP and ask them WHY it's taking so long for this info to come through. Just a thought. They are after all paid to serve I believe. Ask your friendly MP, interesting to see what they have to say if anything at all. :PDT_Xtremez_06:

Interesting article by The Timesonline:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article5963352.ece

"Unions have previously tried to revise pay deals upwards but, with deflation looming, this is the first time that employers have used the same rules to squeeze pay. However, the Armed Forces are likely to enjoy slightly higher rises to reflect demanding deployments in Iraq and Afghan-istan and a retention crisis."

Same article......"An announcement on most pay deals was expected tomorrow, but such is the current uncertainty about “content and timing” in Whitehall that a final decision may be delayed for three weeks, according to officials"

Blimey!

The question was asked in parliament about 10 mins ago and the Defense blokey will speak tomorrow. Usual politician swerve answer though not saying that he'll definitely say anything.

PMQs

At lunchtime on Radio 5 Live Harriet Harman stated that the Sec of State for Defence would announce to the House the details of the Armed Forces pay for 2009 tomorrow.

Is that exactly what she said or just what you interpreted it as?

I don't intend to sound condescending but she is a slippery one. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

This is from the horses mouth! If you go to the 20 Mins 50 sec you will see exactly how she dodged the question.

It's an interpretation - she said the Sec Def would open a whole day debate tomorrow and wnd would address the point in question. The questions was though, why has the PM not announced the pay rise/drop when the AFPRB has been on his desk since 29th Jan.

I feel a dodge coming but hopefully we will get it tomorrow. Not hopeful though because its a defence day and not a public service day (all pay rises announce together - that is assuming that other public bodies pay rises are announced in parliament as well?)

This is the quote from Hansard:

Q5. [266013] Mr. Philip Dunne (Ludlow) (Con): The Armed Forces Pay Review Body submitted its report to the Prime Minister on 29 January. Why should our personnel serving in the field still have no idea whether they will get any pay rise by Wednesday next week? Does the delay reflect more about the Government’s attitude towards the armed forces, or is it another example of dithering incompetence?
Ms Harman: The Government have been unswerving, and rightly so, in our commitment to our armed forces. The Minister of State for Defence will open a full day’s debate on the armed services tomorrow, and I am sure that he will address that point.

I don't know why the Speaker lets them get away with consistently failing to answer the question in hand!!

In theory though, she has answered the Question. The problem is the question itself is not direct enough for a direct and definitive answer

She's both a lawyer and a politician, are you surprised? :PDT_Xtremez_41: Getting a straight answer from either is hard enough, when they're one and the same it's utterly impossible - they'll slither and slide like a greased eel smothered in oil. :PDT_Xtremez_32:

I'm sure I know some officers like that? ;0)
