hi weebl
nice one i surrender
nb ive used the space bar this time
happy.

I have it from a very reliable source that we are getting 1% spread over 12 equal monthly increments!!!!:PDT_Xtremez_31:

You see i heard that Lineys are getting extra peanut rations, Armorers a bottle of gin and some non toxic crayons, and that PTI's are getting extra mirror time. Possibly....

But possible some form of percentage in wages, so for Lineys that does mean more peanuts :PDT_Xtremez_11:

On the plus side, they cant really justify giving us a pay cut, as we are already over stretched and under manned. PVR's are at an all time low because everyone who was thinking about getting out are getting out.... and they are recruiting as fast as possible to fill those gaps. I think to keep us sweet we can expect around 3%.

Or maybe im talking crap :PDT_Xtremez_06:

No your not, That's the point that'll come back to haunt them. In the past redundances were targetted on the whole to get rid of who THEY wanted to get rid of, meaning they could keep the experience where needed etc, HOWEVER over the last 24 months ish that experience has upped sticks and walked with no higher management input. Doesn't matter how much you recruit that gap still remains for many a year.
Still chuckle when I remember CAS's quote "If you don't like it leave"
Should go down in history with the US Civil war Generals famous "They couldn't hit an elephant at that ARRRGH"

Never one to moan but.

Never one to moan but.

Can you press shift when you type the first letter of the sentence as well please ?

Crack on.....................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

When finding fault one should ensure that one's own posts are correct.

No space before the eroteme!

Multiple full stops, or periods, implies more to come.

Perhaps working overseas, on the sea, is having some effect on your native language.

As you were.

It almost goes along with Custers "Injuns? what Injuns?"

The gaps will be there, which means Cpls will have to step up sooner, Sgts will have to step up sooner, which obviously has a knock on effect down the line. The problem is, to fill posts they might not really get the best guys for the jobs, just the guys with the best reports. Not an ideal situation in any walk of life. In my job in particular, we are currently at 67% manning at SAC, with an FDML of 90% at Cpl to keep promotions flowing. Rank range your posts and we can just about cope with the work.

We are not the only trade in this kind of situation, everyone else seems to be suffering something similar, so again, to keep the poor buggers who are still in happy, im predicting a reasonable pay increase.

If it's as high as 3% i'll be very suprised.
Had a visit from the drafters today and the only mention of the payrise was that the AFPRB always push for as much as they can get (and the armed forces should be at the top of the public sector payrises) but the current economic climate was a concern. Could be that the powers that be think people will be too scared to get out and put up with it, again.
But on the bright side manning should be at an acceptable level in 3 years time....... not necessarily trained and qualified manning, but we'll have the right number of bums on seats.

Call me naive, but thats been the way the RAF have promoted people since I have been in.
By your post you are implying it may have been different.
Care to enlighten us?

ha, i was reading a blog the other day, and the bloke wanted to know why the armed forces were not out on the streets cleaning up ice and snow. I kid you not. I could not be-fooking-lieve it. So here we are, drastically undermanned, fighting on 2 fronts with all the support that goes with it, plus supporting Kosovo and the Falklands (everyone forgets them) and we should be out shovelling snow so people dont get cold feet. The state this country is in i swear... anyway, i digress. Manning MAY be at an acceptable level in 3 years, but the fact that its not trained and qualified means we are still up smeg creek without a smegging paddle for at LEAST 5, and with some trades 7-8 years. Id hope in the situation we have at the moment, a hefty pay increase would help people really think about staying in.

I mean, i know the economy is bad, but there is always demand for certain jobs, and some sectors are still doing well. Christ, with management NVQ's as a Sgt you could walk into somewhere like TESCO's with a management job. Which is also good money by the way. Instead of looking short term at numbers now and shortly projected, they should be looking long term and giving us an incentive to stay, rather than having to offer us large lump sums when the horse has already bolted. Obvioulsy that makes sense, so its not going to happen. Pay decrease, here we come ;)

PVR withdrawal? Not likely!

PVR withdrawal? Not likely!

I don't know anyone who's retracted their PVR because of the "recession". If you're going to do that, you really need to question your PVR in the first place; it's a potentially life changing decision that should never be taken lightly or on a whim.

There are lots of jobs out there for people with the right skills. If you've sat on your arse for 22 years, ****ed your wages up the wall and leave the RAF with the O levels/GCSEs you joined up with, have fun stagging on your security guard stint at Tesco.

However, if you've applied yourself, targeted study at something you want to do when you leave (either through PVR or timex) and try to enhance your skills as a professional, certain sectors (I'm thinking engineering) are still desperately short of skilled and experienced manpower. With so many people going to University from school and gaining an "ology" in something, motivated, well trained and qualified personnel are scarce; the armed forces often provides such people to the "outside world" so to speak.

Spot on Monty. The RAF just can't compete with civvy street this days in terms of wages for engineers, and the AMM package it is offering is a joke. To join up as one you have to be really keen to join the RAF, blind to the options the other two services are offering, and ignorant about civilian aerospace. Fortunately for the RAF, it appears there's still plenty of people who fall into that category. I suspect however that once in more of them are realising that its a crap deal to sit there for 4 years on lower payband money, to gain what at the end? An NVQ and some BTEC qual, when they could be doing licences and earning big bucks with 2 or 3 years hard work, and indeed half their Cpls and snecs are doing just that. As per usual the bright proactive guys will leave, and the RAF will retain those who choose the path of least resistance.

A mate of mine (ex TG3) works for Ericsson, dealing with maintenance and upgrade to the infrastructure that supports the mobile networks. His comment to me t'other day was that they have more and more managers with MBAs, and increasing few who know bugga all about engineering in the real world.

MP...sorry to pi$$ on your bonfire but I was in that situation....the only extra quals I had after leaving were the BTEC/ONC that I gained by doing my FT course (only had CSE's when I joined in the first place), oh and the freebie NVQ3.

I won't bang on as most know what I do now and you would not believe my pay for last month.

Hopefully on topic. Just been informed that the 09 pay announcement won't be made this week, next week is half term for Government so we won't hear anything until the WC 23/2 at the earliest.

Saving the bad news until the last minute then!

Gives you less time to whinge about it ...lol

I went into work last night to tales of an e-mail from a 2 star asking how we can get more AMMs to join so any pay increase less than inflation or staged is going to get some very interesting replies to this guy.
(I haven't seen the e-mail yet but it will be in my in box tonight so a bit of jollity in my night shift:PDT_Xtremez_19:)
