Just spoke to a geezer recently back from somewhere hot, but rained over Christmas, and the guys and girls had a visit from the CinC (somebody high up apparently) who told them this years pay rise is going to be 13% (yes thirteen percent). Any gen out there?

Chatting to the civil servant that works in my office, and her particular branch/trade? have got 10% over two years. Is that a sign of things to come? Probably not. We're more likely to get 10% over 4 years lol.

Aye there is far more chance of the Civil Service getting a good pay rise than ourselves. Why should Joe Public care, cos most of them don't! We will probably end up with a paltry 2-2.5%. Mind you, I've got to say that it was a Labour govt who gave the Armed Forces their biggest ever pay rise back in the early/mid 70s. Doubt if that will happen again like.
So go on TB.......porove me wrong!

Well i thought when they gave us a pay rise a few years back with like 1.5 % in April and the remainder in November was illegal and they were told they could not do that so i think we can rule out a staggered pay rise , its not allowed !!!
As for todays news , timely isnt it , The public now thinks yay all the troops are coming home ,its the start of the downsizing !!! Great spin again my blair and the cronies !!! I personally think they will anounce the pay rise this week and be the usual crap we get , The public will think well they dont deserve any more as they pulling out of Iraq , 2 months down the line i put my mortgage on it they will announce a troop increase to Afghanistan !!! great way to fool the public !!! And we will not be any better off

BB so cynical but soooo true. This troop withdrawl is the massive bit of good news, diversionary strike so to speak, whilst the stealth bomber of doom delivers the main payload on the troops of 'heres bugger all dont spend it all at once cos we have to take more back' and then blair gives his congradulatory after conflict speech of 'buy the way chaps my boyfriend is sending his minions of to iran/stan for some target/medical practice and he asked if id like to send you lot, whilst we have a round or twelvety of golf and have tea. so naturally i said yes, as i like tea and golf' Crack on lads
Not illegal just unpopular with us. Had it explained by the friendly AFPRB.
It was a way of gettin us a bigger rise - eventually.
Ie. no way of getting 5% in april (cost too much) so give us 2.5 initially and sneak 2.5 later on - okay we miss out on money for six months of that year but the idea was the initial 2.5 % next year would be worth more, cos the overall pay the year before had done up.
Is that clear? not really will try some figures
so £20000 with 3% is £20,600 for next years payrise

the pay rise was authorised by the labour government which was %32 we received 5% in april in the meantime there was a general election in the may/june and the first thing the bitch did was to give us the remaining 27% backdated to the beginning of april, we all thought she was our saviour, little did we know what she was to become. I remember having a pay parade because the backdated pay was paid in cash.
So technically it was awarded by the governmnet and the bulk of it was paid out by the tories, and has for receiving a decent pay rise in the time she was in power I can't remember. I recall on year we had to wait until the nov for a pay rise and it wasn't backdated. The only thing th tories did for us was to reduce the manpower. Remember if she hadn't reduced the navy, there would have been a naval precence down the falklands, one of the reason the argies invaded was they saw the lack of hms endurance as a sign of weakness.
Also lets not forget options for change, masterminded by the wonderful tory government
There are plans afoot to give the us in the NHS a pay busting rise of 1.5% the unions aren't very happy. Watch this space.

Been at work today, and the rumours are been spread around thick and fast. On the whole, the bottom line which everyone agrees is. The AFPRB announcment is late. What,s the delay in the announcment ? Well many folks I have talked to all agree that there is something in this announcment that we are not going to like. It's the only explanation that is logical, at the moment. As been said before. Todays announcment of troop cuts in Iraq, could be a great smokscreen to bring out a siht pay offer. When Joe publics attention has now been focused upon troops coming home. Tony Blair definatly knows how to do a good spin. It's the only thing he has exceld at over the last ten years. I hope we get an announcment soon. As I have never known so much interest in a pay revue to date.

Not being funny guys but just don't hold your breath for a decent pay rise. I just cant see Blair/Brown giving us anything decent as we're not really high priority for a thankyou at the moment (in their eyes that is!).

At least you can go on strike to show your anger at being shafted by them. Not suggesting it btw, my bedside manner has been likened to Dr Crippen's (would reduce waiting lists mind you), and we'd just have to cover for you like we do every other 'national service' when they go on strike.

The pay run been done, it's just the pay chits that are late. The 'Statement of Earnings' for Feb have been available since last week but only HR staff cn view those.

Des Browne is to make a statement in the commons this afternoon. Watch the news boys and Galls it might be the pay news.
One point with the RAF down sizing (again) from 47,000 to 41,000 thats 6,000 less pay packets say taking the average wage at £30,000
then 6000 x £30,000 = 180 million pounds less pay to pay out each year.
Spread that 180 million between the remaining 41,000 troops thats £4390 each.
Which means we could get a 14.6% pay rise at no extra cost to the tax payer.
That sounds fair to me......

Why not? We all know this govt love to hide bad news behind good so the announcement could be something like this:
WE'RE BRINGING LOTS OF TROOPS BACK FROM BASRAH
and the forces pay rise is 1.5%
and we're only bringing the troops back to give them a bit of a rest before we follow Bush into another unwinnable war.
