From their position they must have seen the Iranian patrol boats. Didn't they think there was anything suspicious about them?

Do the Navy do the same Conduct After Capture briefs as we do? It's a few months since I last attended one, but there are a few basics on that video that just looked wrong, e.g., Faye Turney's letter appeared to be in her own handwriting. I thought that was a big no no.

While conduct after capture theory is all well and good, are we are not at war with Iran. Yes they should be passing the minimum of info as 4 C. The letter she wrote has been worked obviously with Iranian input. She can be forgiven that.

Ehhh? significantly armed with weapons! I should have hoped they had been in the first place. As for top cover, it was there at the time of the incident.

BBC 10 O'clock News stated as my last post on weapons and the Lynx.

Troops in held Iran

I would have thought all 3 services would have done the same kinda brief/training. Having just completed 1 day IRT where you don't just have to give the big 6 as it is now know but informed about the new traffic light system regarding interrigation Green is common knowledge stuff that can be got of t'internet amber a bit more sensitive to operations and red giving specifics to try and help your situation. All depends on your thresholds etc... Also told the enemy will get you to read out letters or statements they have written for you as an apology or claiming that it was your fault and you were in the wrong. total propoganda. Hopefully the w@@kers in the british media won't play on this to much and hang the navy troops being held for their actions.

Fingers crossed they all get released soon.

I am off out to the region in may for another stay at her majestys' pleasure. Can't wait....

That's what I thought, which is why I was surprised that it looked like a Western woman's handwriting. Since I made that post I have seen the video in full. There are plenty of clues that she was speaking under duress - enough said on that subject before we cross the line.

The British media seem to be very good at playing the game when it comes to military personnel taken captive. They seem to be saying only what they need to and asking no questions that they shouldn't.

Tbh i dont think any of us are in the position to comment on what those poor sods can and cannot do. all i know is our comfy hangars and bays are not the constant fear of what is going to happen to us. theory is fantastic, reality is possibley a whole lot more pooey!!! Faye was quite blatantly noy sayiny those words from the heart.
i just hope they get realsed soon unharmed!

Got to disagree here, if the media were so good what on earth are they doing showing this footage, firstly it's against the Geneva Convention, secondly it's pandering to the Iranians for who this is just one big propoganda excerise.

wgaf,

I presume you refer to the below:

Article 13 of the Geneva Convention relating to the treatment of prisoners of war requires that prisoners of war "at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity."

Slightly miffed on this one as the convention states :

the present Convention shall apply to all cases of declared war or of any other armed conflict which may arise between two or more of the High Contracting Parties.

Iran and Great Britian are not at war!. So dose Iran still have to abide by the convention?.

I don't believe that Iran are lovers of the Geneva Convention so it doesn't apply to them and they can do as they please. Hence showing them on public TV.

One thing the video clip shows proof of life.

The iranians have just said the government can have access if the brit gov. admits they were in iranian waters. Not going to happen some how.

Theres a new bit on the conduct after capture now called 'surviving with dignity'. I think that under the circumstances the Navy/Cabbageheads are doing just fine. Bear in mind, they probably have no idea whats going on out here, and as such they probably just want to get proof of their continued existence out. At least they looked healthy.

I agree totally. It is very easy for us to sit here and theorise about what they should and should not be doing and we all like to think we would act properly in the same situation. I am not criticising them in any way, and I am sorry if I gave that impression.

I would love it if this once proud nation was in a position to say "give them back or we'll bomb you back to the stone age". Sadly, thanks to Bliar and his cronies, we can't.

And what aircraft and personnel are we going to send out there to do that when we cant even get enough flying hours in to keep the aircrew we have current just now?!

One thing I noticed was they all looked knackered on TV and very hungry, them feckers must have been giving them no food and the muck around for sleep deprivation.

Every serviceman and women in the country is watching how the government handle this with mucho interest just to see exactly what would happen to us if we were in this situation.

Turn this on its head.
There was an interesting report on 5Live this morning. The reporter was out side the Iranian embassy, waiting for the public outcry and protests that never came.
The people he asked were more interested in seeing Russel bloody Brand!
Says it all really doesn't it?
Can you imagine the flag burning and protests in Iran if the tables were turned?

I realise that this will go down like a lead balloon but they've got us by the short n curlies. If our guys had resisted they would have been wiped out as the Iranians were numerically superior. If our ship had opened fire the same would have happened as well as all h**l breaking out in the region (might not have I suppose but I suspect they would have killed our guys anyway). When we are dealing with a nation led by a load of nutters who don't care about anyone or anything else, they do not think along the same lines as ourselves (anyone who is willing to join a suicide team cannot possibly think straight! anyone who has statyed that he wants to wipe another country off the facr of the earth is also highly suspect) they will always have the upper hand. We do not have the ability to go to war with Iran - END OF! We don't even know where our guys are being held and even if we did the chances of getting them out alive as well as the rescue party must be incredibly slim. It sticks in my throat that I have to admit that we are f****d over this situation. The only way out appears to be diplomacy. Just wish I could trust the iranian govt and.....our own over this terrible situation. As it happens, I also wish we could just go in there, get our guys out, and bomb the s**t out of them - but we can't!

Well, well that just about sums up what joe public thinks about their Armed Services doesn't it. Jeez, thanks guys....thanks a lot! They're only to happy to protest about nukes, alledged bullying in the Armed Forces, our alledged treatment of criminals, our alledged treatment of Iraqi insurgents and such like but when it comes to our guys being internationally kidnapped .................absolutely nothing, not a dickie bird, zilch, zero, sweet f**k all!!!!!!! Makes me want to puke!

Iranians have just said that they will not release Faye Turney due to the UK's "incorrect attitude".

Whilst on IRT yesterday overheard meat n 2 veg guys saying about microchipping service personel. It works with cats and dogs and should be brought in to the military. Would allow tracking and possible assist rescues...

Thoughts with their families and friends.

At last we have the solution to the National ID card question! We could even incorporate behaviour modification programs into the chip. Mug an old granny, get a blinding headache a la Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The first thing any potential kidnappers would do is disable the chip, probably by cutting off the hand or whatever part of the body contains the chip. Stupid idea, sorry.

Just confirms my suspisions all along, there just using Faye by playing the fear card. All women in the service must dread this situation and there familys too, lets just pray that all they have done is kidnapp her.

Amen to that. It's the kind of nightmare scenario we were encouraged to think about on IRT.

Well! What a f*****g surprise that is then......NOT!

Russian attitude

Russian attitude

Back in the 70's (I think) a Russian ambassador was abducted in Lebanon. Allegedly the Red's kidnapped the grandson of a hezbollox leader and demanded the return of the ambassador or the child would come back with some assembly required. Hezbollox returned him unharmed the same day and the Russians never had the problem again.

Nah, Tony hasn't got the stones to pull a stunt like that has he !:PDT_Xtremez_26:
