Have read over this link and it has obviously opened up a discussion!! and without doubt every1 wants them all to return safely and quickly. it has also been mentioned about the UN statement.......SH@?!, they were working under the UN I believe, so they should have more involvment not just a three sentence statement.
What are you views on this letter reported to be by the female? I think it's rubbish and should be discounted, others who i have spoke too thinks its genuwine????????????

Second Letter

Second Letter

There's a few changes in style, and you would think she was a bit daft if she meant those things. But there are enough views on here about wanting to pull out and it was all a big mistake etc.....

As for rescue? this isn't IRAQ, they are not prisoners of war(so no geneva stuff) Iran is a much tougher cookie than IRAQ who had their defences surpressed in GW1 and for years later. The Iranians have all sorts of defences and air power, to send a couple of lynxs in would be stupid. Anyone seen Blackhawk down?

I saw the Iranian footage and the lynx was there, it looks a bit like we let our guard down a bit......

Hope all gets resolved soon.

unfortunatly as reported the other week the iranians have just upgraded their air defences with the lastest kit from russia! so any rescue by air of some sort would be suicide.

The obvious wrong in the the latest letter is the refernce to UK MPs as "Representatives". If it was a genuine letter then she would call them MPs

That was the first obvious mistake, there were others, particularly a few missing small words ("for" and "of"). Typical mistakes made in a letter written by someone for whom English is not their first language.

I think she's doing just fine and am more confident that she and the others will come out of this relatively unscathed.

I dont think the letter is genuine, just seems a bit predictable. But what concerns me is surely the lynx crew could see what was developing and warn the marines/sailors or for whatever reason chose not too. Found this link that makes interesting reading http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=237426

So in reality all we have are "normal" kidnappers but how are they ever gonna be brought to justice ? Oh silly me i forgot we are in the UK and roll over and let johny foreigner do whatever he likes. Just like normal criminals on a bigger scale then....sweet (if your a crim)

Crack on...............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

I suppose arresting and detaining soldiers of a sovreign nation in the commission of their duties OUTSIDE your territorial waters isn't act of war in your book then ? :PDT_Xtremez_17:

to be honest in my book it is. and if it isnt its pretty bloody close!
but starting a shooting war with iran would not be a good idea imho.
doesnt make what iran has done excusable. totally out of order.
but things escalating into an amed conflict would not help

unfortuneatly our russian friends at the minute are not going to sign it!

russia is a permanent member of the security council.
they are making a lot of money out of iran. i think they would back a statement. its sanctions they have a problem with as they are making money out of trade and arms deals

What is really getting on my nerves now (apart from the fact that it should never have happened in the first place) is that the press seem to think there was only one person captured!

I'm certainly not having a go at her and I'm hoping they are all released soon, but the press speak of nothing else! There are 14 other naval and Marine personnel there as well, what about them? Are they not as important as the only women they've captured?

I know exactly what you mean. Why do they have to tell us she has a 3 year old daughter called Molly every hour on the hour. I'm sure some of the guys have young kids at home too.

In this day and age there is little difference to the kids whichever parent is away OOA. I know, I had my kids begging me to come home every time I spoke to them.

The Press

The Press

Personally, I hate that the press mentions information on family. It gives the enemy another weapon to use. Plus, it can also put those people in danger as well. If I were captured I'd rather that my personal life and family were never mentioned, that I were treated like a single soldier with no family. Why help the enemy with more information? Make them find that crap out on their own.

As for the rest, I just hope the US continues to stay low key and let the Brits handle it. We should support our friends in any way they request, including keeping our big mouths shut. So far, it seems to be going that way...

Open conflict with Iran would be a bad thing on so many levels right now. I don't think the US can risk it as it would probably destroy the economy. We've honked off enough people already, best to clean up some of the mess before kicking over more trashcans. I think there are two Irans to be dealt with; one where the current government runs things and the other where the Revolutionary Guard is running things. Wildcards. Got to hate 'em.

WTF is the UN security council playing at??!!!! Whats wrong are they now frightened to speak up against illegal activity such as blatant kidnapping or is it they too are now scared to offend mad muslims.

FFS if it was any other county we would be complaining along with them.

Does anyone know where the Iranian embassy is in London, how about us giving it large and burning effigies of the Iranian president and shouting slogans like 'Behead those who kidnap out troops!', or on a more subtle note does anyone know how to find the Iranian embassy e-mail and we will bombard them with abuse the FU**ING WAN**ERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS I am raging at this.........

GMTV this morning continually referred to the group as Faye Turney and the 14 Marines, do they not have names and children ? Why make the woman into a celebrity ? Surely all that will achieve is to increase her value to the Iranians as a bargaining chip !

Its in Princess street isnt it? Im sure I saw it on the telly once getting a makeover hehehe

The media are creating a bigger problem by concentrating on the girl (and absolutely no offence meant by that statement). However, the rest of the guys have families too so the press should stop making it worse for all concerned (including her family). The UN have now shown just how pathetic they really are. Our sailors & marines were carrying out their legitimate duties in Iraqi waters under the auspices of the UN mandate so how come their statement is so weak? As for the UK seeking support from the rest of NATO & the EU countries, well.... to be honest, will they be much help if the UN's statement is so pathetic? I doubt it. Over in the States (not that it matters what they think but really it may have helped) Blair is now seen as being incredibly weak and it is obvious to me that the UN now expects the UK to sort out this mess by itself, even although we were operating under their mandate! I seem to be missing something here!!!!!!!
The Iranians will milk this for all it's worth by cocking a snoot to the UK, the UN and particulary the US as well. A country governed by a weak government who kowtows to the Republican Guard and Ayatollahs just cannot be trusted. I just pray that our boys and girls get home safely and soon. G*d knows where this is going to lead. One thing for sure, Blair and so-called New Labour cannot recover from this incident...surely? Maybe I got it all wrong, maybe there are other things going on behind the scenes that we don't know about, maybe I'm unfairly criticising Blair... I really don't know. One thing's for sure, we are rapidly approaching a potentially horrendous situation which may get out of all control - and we may not be able to stop it happening. Like I said earlier, and I think all of us will agree, just let our boys and girl come home safely. When it happens, I wonder how many of them will remain in the RN & Marines after the way they have been perceived to have been treated by the Govt? Lots of food for thought here.

Faye has the limelight for two reasons; she's a woman with a young child (better human interest story than a 21 year old bootie) and her family have chosen to allow her name to be used. The rest of the families seemingly want no involvement with the media at this time so the MOD are doing their best to keep them out of the press.

The press seem to be playing the game too. My mates nephew is fairly well known in his local area and, although a lot of the locals know he's out there the local rag has kept away.

BTW it wasn't 14 marines, it was 7 (or 8) marines and 8 (or 7) matelots.

The government's sh1t handling of this whole affair started by Mrs caravan sending a minion to to protest to the Iranian ambassador. FFS, kidnapping of our troops and that's all she did? As for the UN, they should be fcucking ashamed of themselves, countless millions to run a pink fluff organisation that simply tells diplomats off, toothless w@nkers. It wouldn't be so bad if we could use a bit of gunboat diplomacy but most of the gunboats are tied up in Pompey. Fcuk knows where this is going to lead. There was some t0sspot on the radio this morning saying both sides should back off, he was so pro-iran, it would've been easy to think he was Iranian. The official line about the troops violating Iranian waters is all smoke and mirrors, quietly ignoring the fact that there are plenty of Iranians stoking the flames inside Iraq. As with shedloads of cnuts in that part of the world, they've got more faces than the town hall clock and should be treated as such. Total isolation from the rest of the world should be instigated but probably won't happen because the soft, lefty diplomats will let us down...again! What are these tw@ts paid for?
Morning rant off.:PDT_Xtremez_25:
