CPL - SGT Board 2011

Right not gonna think about it over the weekend, shall wait till Monday morning then get on it.

Congrats to those that have come off especially the first 30.

missed out this year again ! 99th

only 2 more boards to go now until my 22 is up !

Unlucky RS2K.:PDT_Xtremez_34:. I just got a phone call at home from a well known WO who told me I was at 60. Just inside so hopeful for later, (as long as it doesn't collapse like the last PSB!)

Spamout:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Wish I had read this earlier....could have started on the service complaint earlier.
How can they release 31 straight away when 4 weeks ago there was not any more slots due in the next 3 months due to the amount of reorg going on.
Yes you may guess I was within last years quota, but never got it. Not been dragged into the office today so guess my posting and OOA dropped me down the list again. Getting a bit bored of it now.

You have to draw a line somewhere, on your theory they would still be using the 2009 board.

bearing in mind postings require 90 (3months) days then immediate release has a bigger timescale on it.

congrats spammy , thats at least one for the Locking crew

congrats to all the lucky ones

Right everyone let's clear some things up here so that hopefully some of you can rest in peace of a night.

The immediate release is 30 not 31. One of the people within the 30 was read by mistake and was actually promoted earlier this year. Thus there are only 30 names being used so far.

6 offers went out today for assignment within the next 2 months.

The other 24 offers will be sent out over the coming weeks/months. Remember this is to fill vacancies within the next 6 months.

Those 22 not used from last year's board couldn't be released because the board closes at least a month ahead of the next board. This year the board closed 5 weeks before and at that point the Career Manager was also having to do their first round of ZEUS moves / career management reviews of personnel. Subsequently the time that this process now takes has left the CM with holes. Also several people have ET'd since the board closed and others have been notified of med discharge. To top it off the debacle that is NATO overnight decided to stand up 9 new Sgt posts overseas and disestablish several posts in the UK. There is no way the CM could have foreseen this happening and this obviously created holes as people applied and were subsequently assigned.

Towards the end of this year then the CM will start doing more releases but as they get into the second half of the promotion year they have to release people with care. As mentioned earlier on this forum once released then someone has to be used and this then has an impact on the following year's quota. Manning are constrained but many variables when making the prediction/quota 15 months out.

For those of you who are selected for promotion, offered and accept then you will get to meet your CM at TMT2 where he has an open forum with you. This can be as short as an hour but all the forums he has held so far have been frank and honest and as such the audience have taken this opportunity to ask all the questions they can think of and normally the forum goes on for about 3-4 hours.

I have been in one of these forums and no stone is left unturned and hopefully you will leave that room with a much greater understanding of the constraints/issues etc that the CM has to deal with. It is easy to shoot Manning without having the knowledge, and maybe once you are promoted you can come back to this forum in the future and pass on some of that advice to your fellow tradesmen?

As for an earlier post about trying to coerce the CM (Sgt Xxxxxxxxxxx) then you would be well advised to start reading up on Project ZEUS. 4 year assignments for 90SU and a standard 3 year assignment for everyone else. The longest you will serve in a post is 5 years and whilst you will be eligible to move after 18 months (except 90SU) you will only be considered if you are deemed the 'best available'. Assignment to area of choice is now bottom of the pecking order as it is all about career development.

Where possible they will try and assign personnel on promotion based on skill sets versus vacancies, however, this is the very first time this ZEUS process on promotion is beind tried and there are obviously going to be some that don't work out but I guess that the posts have to be filled with someone?

Believe me I would not want to be in the CM's shoes trying to deal with the movement and career management of 650 Sgt's - that has to be one thankless task?

Hopefully that has helped, I will check back over the next few days in case anyone has any other questions, or is uncertain of any of the above.

It's not rocket science though and Zeus makes it simpler than it was by reducing the impact of Areas of Choice. So let's not over-egg the pudding here - yes a busy job, but one that a good Sgt TG17 should breeze.

Doubt it they got up to 115 ish on that board with a prediction of 80 if I remember right?

I can see how people have problems with the system when they predict a quota and then don't reach it but then suddenly require a glut when the next board sits. I know several of the first batch from the last board got promoted in situ (slid sideways) so they were not filling any unseen gaps.

Raf Blue - The Nato slots were on the cards for a while and advertised for several months before the board needed to shut. So no excuse for not planning for it. The 6 slots maybe should have been released in hindsight. It would be interesting to see how many actually got it last year, as opposed to where they got on the list. Gives the guys a better view of numbers. I think they reached 80 on the list, but don't know how many actually got offers.

Excellent and well reasoned post.
In all trades, please remember that wheels are turning and burning within the hallowed walls that is Manning. Goal posts change and yet they are expected to keep everything normal. IMHO those on the TG 4 desks that I have dealings with are top guys and gals. Good job folks.

I think you will find the NATO posts were originally called for (in Jan 11) and then rapidly removed as NATO had a panic that they didn't need them. Even though the posts remained on the 'books' so to speak it was expected that they would be transferred to other nations. Finally they decided they wanted three posts filling which duly happened. However, about 12 people applied for the 3 posts. After that trawl had finished then NATO (in Apr) decided they were RAF TG4 posts and asked us to fill them, which was done with all those people who had applied in the first place. However, by the time overseas paperwork was received and personnel assigned the board had closed. Hence my point about NATO posts causing some of the problems. I have been fortunate to be in the TMT brief that the CM gives so I know this is the case.

Do you happen to know where the first 6 are going?

God yes, Ps3's, Cars and PC's don't fix themselves you know. We've had to learn how to do things for ourselves now, its hoop.

Congrats on coming off the board though mate. One of the few people who fully deserve it.
