good luck all, lets hope this years the year:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Anyone know what happens if you turn it down? Say, for example, that you have personal commitments and don't want to move again for a couple of years, or you don't want to be financially worse off by taking promotion or both?

You delete "I accept/decline the offer of promotion" as appropriate and send it back to your chief clerk. You have 48 hrs to make the decision and you will automatically miss next years promotion board. Did it myself 2 years ago and am back in the mix this year.

if you are overseas and only part way through your tour you can defer the promotion, keep your place on the psb and either take promotion at the end of your current tour or hope for a slot to come up where you are. to be honest if the post was right you would have to way up the advantages and disadvantages to your own circumstances before defering or accepting an offer. especially in the current climate.

Top advice! If you do defer promotion you may want to think about putting your reason in the comments box on your next SJAR so that the next board to see you understand why. However make sure your reasons are good, ideally from a service reason such as 'have only just started on sentry/merlin/etc and would like further time in current job to consolidate etc etc and there are no promotion slts avaialbe' and not just 'I have been at waddo/benson etc for the last 10 years and only want promoton if I can stay here etc' (seen this on PSB!).

In my opinon, in the current climate you have to try and reduce the impact of anything that has the possiblity of been seen as a negative bya PSB, such as previoulsy declining promotion for non-valid reasons. There are loads of reasons why prmotion is not right for someone at a particular time but if you decide that is the right decison then you have to accept the consequences that 'might' arise.

I know an admin guy will probably come on here an point out that you are re-eligible after 1 year off the board and declining promotion should have no impact and in accordance with the rules they are right. But also remember the PSB is made up of people who are often looking for the smallest example to be able to differentitate between guys. For example if there were 10 slots on the PSL, 1-9 have all scored higher so that is easy for the PSB but 10 and 11 score exaclty the same, the board then has to make a decison from the info they have who to rank 10 and who 11, if they are still the same and the only difference is one of the guys last time out declined promotion becuase they wanted to stay at the same base whilst the other guy has accepted regular moves in the interests of the service who would you choose?

Declining promotion is a big decsion but the right one for some people, just think really carefully about doing it and suggest you take some advice from your management, Unit career advisor etc!

What you also have to remember, If you get posted away from an the area you want to be in. You can try and coerce 'dutch' into giving you closer posting when one comes up after 18 months in post. We have access to the postings register on the manning site, with all the tour review dates and future availabilty dates. It's not set in stone as some of those can change, but it gives you an idea when posts are coming available in an area. As spike said when he was trade sponser when I was one my IMLC, never turn down promotion, because you can always get back to where you want to go, but there is no guarantee that you will get picked up again.

^^ Where did you find out from, Was it your Appollo rep or have you got some secret access??

Just found out mid 130's, not a happy bunny at all. Ah well looks like golf ball hose pipe action time.

Just out of interest what unit are you currently at and how long have you been in?
Just interested to see how many from the wing get picked up and how the Locking/Cosford trained split is.

They have released the top 30 as someone I work with has been told. We have been told to wait until next week for the full PSL>
