Cpl-Sgt Board 2012

Unfrotunately write ups will make or break your SJAR.

You can have the best SJAR in the world, but if your ROs aren't able to articulate how good you are, then I am afraid you're at an immediate disadvantage on the board, and someone else who is maybe not as good as you; but has an RO with a better grasp of English, will most likely come out ahead.

I haven't bothered asking for my position. I'd rather not know personally.

That is the problem with our promotion system it is the 1st/2nd RO that is getting assessed on his/her writing/English skills and not the subject.

Good luck

Good luck

Not a lot of Happy Faces at the West Midlands Training Base.... I managed to drop to 73 this year. At least I have a couple of years left to try and move into the catchment bracket, (Luckily I joined up at 16 so gave me 23 1/2 years)..........Good luck to those who are still waiting to here!........Spamout

Soul destroying......I been in a similar boat twice!! creeping up the list (remember the "no Cis tech promotions" fuss 4/5 years ago??), bang posted and unfashionable OOA and dropped just outside the numbers, worked my way back up in the numbers for last 2 years but caught with the reductions. Don't know if I want to know this year?

I really wish there was some mechanism to show continued dedication despite taking the hits. I still think a guy who has been in the A's for nearly 7 years out of last 8 (despite 2 OOA's and 4 postings) deserves a shot over someone promoted in situ and does their 2/ 3 years on best behaviour.

Don't know if it will help anyone on her but rumour has it they are looking 60 now. That was why the board was late being ratified.
Fingers crossed for them that have worked for it and not just sat on every committee going for an easy ride.

Lets fooking hope not mate. If I miss out one year because they cut the board half way through and then the following year I am leap frogged by 64 people and they extend it I would be bloody furious!

Not to sound too bitter but NO FOOKING WAY !

Been a few picked up at 90SU by all accounts. One hasnt left TCW/90SU since arriving as an SAC. How can that show diversity in the trade. Bound to have good assessments knowing the kit inside & out

You don't say! Anyone know if the president of the board is on 90?? Or recently left it??:PDT_Xtremez_28:

I do think that is wrong, not because it is 90, but it shouldn't happen anywhere.

You should be promoted and posted to a new unit, if you are that good they need you to stay then they also need you at the same rank.

Same old bleats every SAC-Cpl/Cpl-Sgt/Sgt-FS board. If over 1/3 of the trade is at 90SU, chances are a big percentage off the board will either be there or recently left.

Fair enough post Mad Col, but the West Midland Training Base has a percentage of TG4 Cpls and Bugger all promotions.

Spamout

says the man who dodges 90 but still gets picked up

Then statistically you would expect 1/3 of the promotions, but when you think they only work 2/3rds of the year at 90 compared to the rest of us working full time then you would expect more promotions from the real air force.

Haven't got a clue where I came and to be honest I'm not that fussed. I get a good wage, my job isn't the best but hey I get AT perks :PDT_Xtremez_31:. At the end of the day you could be the best JNCO ever, but if your ROs are rubbish at articulating how amazing you are and including evidence of this; you are on a road to nowhere.

That's my 2p worth.

It's only a game, so
Put up a real good fight,
We're not going to be promoting you tonight.

I'm famed for my work, so
Y'better believe I'm off,
I'm gonna be leaving you,
leaving you tonight!

lol, being a snooker player this made me chuckle!

OK i'll bite! Since arriving at 90 18 odd months ago i've spent over 12 months away from home OOA, on exercise and on training courses so I think i've earnt my 1/3 of a year off. Wonder if I should be paid part time wages for my slacking?

I used to subscribe to the 'SJAR is only as good as your RO' argument. Since attending the influencing and writing SJAR courses I don't. If you don't agree with your SJAR or feel it has been poorly written you don't have to accept it. If you are able to point out why it has been poorly written and show foundation for your complaint then they have to change it. If you are still not happy there is a process in place to support you. The system is fine it's just poorly used by subjects and RO's alike. If you're not able to point out the reasons why your SJAR is poorly written or even spot them before the SJAR is completed then it's probably a good job you don't get picked up because you're clearly not ready to be writing them yourself.

IMO

Well said, too many people blame there lack of promotion on their Line Managers poor grammar etc. Do something about it! After a complaint I was unlucky enough to have to proof read another SNCOs attempt at writing SJARs, it made my eyes bleed just reading them, I ended up being tasked with re-writing them (Using the points he wanted to get across but couldn't). Believe me it was commented on in his SJAR that his report writing wasn't up to scratch. Things will be done if you have valid criticisms of your LMs SJAR writing skills.

Can see where you're both coming from, BUT, you can do fook all about the 2nd RO's input as you dont get to see his comments until it's finalised.

For my last assessment, I asked my 2nd RO to re-write a section of it. He gave me an interview to hear why I wanted it re-written and then agreed to change it.

*edit* not that it did much good! B grade as expected!

Completely agree, the whole system is transparent right up to the 2nd RO bit, why is it shrouded in mystery? Let's be honest though the 2nd RO generally chats to the 1st RO and his comments will reflect those of the 1st RO most of the time, it's the times that there is a big difference between the 2 that cause problems, though I believe that a 3rd RO can be used if the 2 can't come to some agreement. What I don't know though is what recourse to go to 3rd RO you have when the SJAR appears in your workflow with comments from the 2nd RO you don't agree with/ are factually incorrect and they won't change it?
