PAYD Bringing ISS To Its Knees

At the secret ISTAR place, after the Olympics. ISS are planning centralised messing every weekend as a cost cutting exercise. Only the start me thinks!

It doesn't surprise me, ISS were making hints in that direction even before they took over fully and to be fair to them, on a unit with 500 living-in junior ranks, all 3 messes were feeding a combined total of less than 30 at weekend meals even before PAYD. From a business perspective it just isn't feasible.

What's more of a pity is the fact a local business that used to supply good value food, was forced to close down.

Actually they were bought out with a very competative price.

Whilst I am no lover of ISS, it is worth remembering that a lot of the chefs are RAF and we all know that they are masters of the blanderiser!

Here at the only fast jet base in Norfolk, ISS have closed down the Bowling alley.......temporarily?? Yeah,,and the moons made of cheese!

in defence of the RAF Chefs (no i'm not one) you cant cook anything nice if the ingrediants are C**P.

our classic in the old folks home seems to be sausages (with beans, on their own, sausage caserole, toad in the hole...oh no that ones a supreme C**P price.......

Oh and harry the staish has now made his forum moderated at source,,,,,,,,,,might be somthing to do with all the comments on the C88p that ISS is.........the sooner they get the push the better.....PLEASE!!!

"See, we all told you this was going to happen but would you listen... Did you balls!'

Message from the airships:

"WE told YOU that this was a bad idea, but still you voted for change"

You have nobody to blame other than the short sighted cnuts that voted out the old system because 90 quid a month for food was far too much to pay. Especially given that they were too lazy to get up and eat breakfast....

No fcuking sympathy.

Well I don't recall ticking any ballot paper for this change therefore, I FCUKING DIDN'T 'vote' for this change, you tube!

What a load of crap. Please give me a link to where any sort of vote took place to change the system. I have never been asked to vote and nor has anyone else.
And if there was any moaning it was probably from your generation and not the current generation who are being penalised.
PAYD didn't appear over night, this had been in the pipeline over 10 years ago at least, it's taken that long to get to the crap position we are today. Now bearing in mind that most people in a JRM are less than 10 years in Service, how is their fault ?
Fact is, subsidised food was a huge overhead that some pen pusher saw as an easy way to save the MOD a huge amount of money. The ball started rolling towards a civvy run system and so the we are where we are today.
For short sighted know it alls who think it's clever to say they have "no fcuking sympathy" because they think the MOD did all this because a few junior rank liver inners said they didn't like paying £90 a month, shows you up as a fool !

You're absolutely spot on there Mentalist!

Back in the days when footballers wore shorts that would be deemed indecent and petrol was 75p a litre I still bothered to go to those roadshows where people from Innsworth or wherever pitched up at your station and asked 'what do you want changed?'...It was either this or work and sometimes they turned into quite an amusing bunfoight if the right old crusty chief got his dander up about something that most of us were too young to understand.

These were the forums that I remember were increasingly used to hammer the issue of PAYD. This was just after the beginning of multiple station closures and people were piitching up at your open station from closed ones feeling 'miffed' and travelling at weekends back to their homes all over the country. At the time the only people who really used these forums were those that were p1ssed off at something so what subject do you think got a deal of airtime?

I've pretty much always lived out so paid it lip service...but by the power of greyskull the seeds of discontent that were sown back then have come to bitch-slap you all now.

The real bugger of it all is that a large portion of those people that set this goat loose are probably long gone from the mob!

The other bugger is now you have it the MoD have the bit between their teeth in the austerity stakes and this is a way of saving money that will never be reversed.

I'd say,it goes even further, back to the 70s. There was always the lade who went home every weekend who objected to paying for food they didn't eat.

I never complained about the cost, because it was taken out of your wage, I didn't miss it and I always knew I'd have a roof over my head and 3 good meals a day, even when there was too much month left at the end of the money. As they say be careful what you wish for. I'd hazard a guess that there are a lot of folks who couldn't care less about payd. They don't use the mess facilities, so they aren't bothered.

Get over yourselves. Obviously there was no ballot paper because we exist to defend democracy not practice it. However, for the entirety of my 20 year career to date, and for many years before that, people have complained loudly about the perceived unfairness of paying for meals they weren't eating. We sit here on the goat, in crewrooms and in messes all over the world moaning that the airships don't listen to us. Well on this issue at least they listened, they acted, and we now have PAYD. We now have to live with the consequences but to say this was an unwanted measure which was forced upon us is just selective amnesia.

I think it's more likely that the austerity measure was driven by economics rather than the view of the shop floor.

Exactly, its about perceived progress and life moving on and adapting. Shall we go back to the days of 16 man rooms and different pay scales for married and single airmen.

In my 20 years and having sat many consultations as an SAC and Cpl from various briefing teams at various units, NOT ONE within the audiences were happy of this from the proposals placed before us.

You absolutely right, many complained about paying for food over a weekend prior to the induction of JPA now that the option is available if on a unit that is still not on PAYD. I also agree with you that those in the past who had bitched and moaned about paying 90-odd quid per month for food had no real grounds to do so cos IMHO the standard of food produced at the time for that cost per individual was very good.

I certainly had no issues with this when I was a liver-in hence my opinion on the tread's matter.

This is total made up fantasy and I challenge you to support one thing you have said above with one piece of evidence.
Obviously there wasn't a ballot paper because there wasn't a vote, of any description.
Your fantasy explanation that a few moaners at a few roadshows had the overall deciding effect that PAYD would be introduced, shows naivety on your part beyond belief.
I will ask you once again to provide the link, that supports your ridiculous comment of "Well on this issue at least they listened, they acted, and we now have PAYD. If that was the case, it would have been publicised as such by the management (senior). They wouldn't have resisted the chance to tell us all, how they were in touch with the troops and how they had listened and acted.
I stand by my initial assessment, PAYD is a huge cost saving project, end of. There must be some PAYD policy out there which states the reason for it's creation, I will endeavour to seek it out next week and will donate £10 to an e-goat charity if it mentions anything about being introduced because of "popular demand".

Lastly, your post TBJ is rather contradictory in the least, one minute you say that we are not a democracy and do as were told, next minute you say that mass moaning has changed a huge aspect of Armed Forces life ???
Can't have both I'm afraid, either we do as were told (hence forced introduction of PAYD), or we work in an Armed Forces were by moaning about stuff gets it changed (as per your explanation of PAYD).

Crikey, you must have been very important to have sat in many consultations as an SAC/CPL. I have been to many roadshows, wouldn't really call them consultations as such, roadshows are usually held just prior or just after a major change. Usually with the change having been cast in stone and only to give a pr slant as to what is about to be forced upon us.
Many SAC/CPL etc moan about all sorts, every day up and down the country, doesn't mean that if something changes it's because it was down to them.
I hear TG1 moaning relentlessly about pay, don't see anyone knocking up a special pay spine in a hurry.
Please support statements with links to supporting evidence or otherwise people will just dismiss them as t-bar bollix.

So my 20 years of listening to people moan about paying for meals at weekends or weekday breakfasts that they weren't eating, the first few years of which I was also a living-in singly, doesn't count as evidence in your eyes? I have been accused of many things in my time but naivete has never been one of them.

Good luck with your search, it won't take very long and I am sure Veteran's Aid will be very grateful for your donation.

Every year, the bods from pmc innsworth would come and tell us what was happening or about to happen in tge RAF. Every year people would bitch about paying for food they didn't ear, remember in tge 70s and 80s, £90 was a big chunk of an airmans wages. Every year the stock reply was food standards would go down and we would end up paying more for our food. So the seeds were sown years ago. Well it looks like your masters have listened and you're are getting whst people have wished for. Go ask your crusty wo man or,for Sgt if in tge day they wanted/asked for payd.

Nothing is going to be written down about people wanting payd. Please believe me it was a big thing years ago and looks as though it's been carried out.
