I understand what your saying there Harry. I have been told by a few guys now that B3 is the future and I should be looking to lift my limitations asap. As far as Cat A goes, what do I have to do to get Cat A? I thought B2 B1's where to a higher level than Cat A? Oh and If anyone knows of anyone looking to take on an unlicensed guy with 12 yrs RAF experience and eager to please ( Non Sexually :) then please let me know. Im out 12 th Feb next year. Cheers

I hope you are not gonna quote what someone came out with a few weeks ago, that a B3 is the new licence for those who hold B1 and B2 tickets :PDT_Xtremez_42:

People seem to be talking a lot about B3 because EASA are proposing this new category to help pull people into the GA side of flying because of SEVERE shortage in this field.

The entry requirements for training will be lower than that of B1 or B2 but that is to reflect the lower complexity of GA light aircraft. EASA currently classify a light aircraft as piston-engined non- pressurized aeroplanes of 2000 Kg MTOM and below. This does not include helicopters. Those with B1.2 will be unaffected and will be able to work up or down the weight cats

I have just been told that being a B2 is not enough as eventually everyone will be B1 + B2 (I didnt know anything about B3 being a new EASA License) Just another way of saying B1 + B2. I personally come from a Fairy/Leckie background and hate the thought of heavy work as it dosn't interest me but eventually I dont think I will have a choice. Cheers

MAOS B3 = Armourers? Probably to make armourers feel like they're qualified for something - even though its only bangs, bombs 'n' bullets. (awww...isnt it a shame? Poor things. - somebody give 'em a banana.)

The presentation on the EASA website and others point towards B3 being primarily aimed at the GA side of things. However, looking a little deeper, a push towards a B3 cat to include IFE work makes sense. Particularly with the complexity of the new AVOD systems and the integration of the networks to the aircraft systems.

Have a good look at the link TW has provided. Pay particular attention to section G, it lists the requirements for extending licence privileges to include another category. You will need modules 7, 11, 15 and 17 in part or full.

Actually Im 100 % sure what im trying to achieve mate. Im studying towards B2 as thats where my background is. But I appreciate you pointing out my naivety. Just wasn't sure I needed Cat A but I may just go the whole hog and get my B1 next year also, in the meantime, its 1 day at a time and B2 first. Cheers

You're not naive mate and I'm sorry if that's what my posts made you think. It was just the comments about B3 that made me laugh and I think you missed my point somewhat. (read through the posts again and I think it will raise a smile from you too.)

Not that high, probably ONC but no calculus. It's all multi-guess but the thing that makes it difficult is the time constraints and a 75% pass mark.
My opinion is, if you could pass a fitters course then you could pass your licence modules.
 
Maths is probably nearer (what I understood as) "A" level maths.
Don't forget that the Licences are aimed at those joining an apprenticeship / airline.

Any Degree qualification in/from formal aeronautical courses/colleges is not necessarily part of the Licence syllabus.

It ain't "A Level" stuff. I got 88% for my Module 1 exam, my ONC and HNC results were about 60%..

That statement is pretty much on the money. There is nothing difficult about passing the exams providing you are prepared to put the work in. I personally thought maths was a doddle compared to fitters course ONC and the physics based stuff was probably on a par with a bit extra thrown in. Mechanical guys tend to come unstuck with the electrical based modules (3&4) and the avionic module (5) as these can be very heavy going. Any subject that does not interest you also makes study that little bit harder. The air leg module (10) is of course a different ball game and you will be learning things that are totally alien.
