Cpl-Sgt Board 2012

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Thanks CMM, without meaning to sound like i'm having a dig (cos i'm not) that kind of proves the system is complete bollox. How does someone who tries end up as a B and someone who doesn't become an A.

Either you're lucky as hell or i'm trying too hard.

lol.

It's more likely that the 1st RO has mistaken seniority for actual worthiness to progress. It's not uncommon and is often down to the 1st RO's lack of knowledge or not havin the balls to tell it like it is. I suppose it is also possible tuat he/she was simply afraid to upset a senior tradesman.

Not sure your argument holds there as i am hitting 9 years as a Cpl in December. If that was the case i would be an A grade straight away, or have i missed something!

Is it possible that you are missing something and CMM was taking the p!55??

First post and that was what he came out with, anyone fancy a spot of troll hunting??

Or we could go fishing!!

I had it a few years back were i gave up, showed very little interest just done what I was told and nothing more and at my annual I got told I had had a really good year!
To be fair I have been everywhere and proved myself more than capable of doing a very good job the next rank up.

That's what i was hinting at when i said am i missing something, not really that bothered now to be honest, i'm getting too close to my time to worry about it, besides, i think i am probably in the best place i can be for my chosen post RAF career path. Namely Paradigm/Colerne up the road, M4/M5 interchange (RAC Comms hub, Orange, etc).

Gonna start getting those feelers out soon, already have contacts in two other locations.

B grade

B grade

Hello all first post so please dont rip me to shreds.Like many of you I have found out that after 18 years in and high recs for the last 6 years I am B garde. With all the good charity and high level duties to go with it even sitting on Exec Committees with one stars and senior officers. Having read all of the comments on this thread I think the only thing that is certain is that in all honesty it doesnt matter what you do or how high brow your additional duties are, you are only going to come off the board if your 1st and 2nd RO can write a strong enough SJAR I agree with the posts about 90SU getting a large share of the promotions but as has been pointed out on here a large amout of the trade is there. One comment I would also like to make is that I was sat in the Trade Sponsers brief a couple of years ago at RAF Leeming when they stood up and briefed TG$ and they actually said "When it comes to promotion we would naturally favour somebody who in active on Ops and has completed a green tour over somebody sat in a cosy DATO role" Granted the brief was given to a mainly 90SU audiance but the words were said.I am now of the mindset that I will just enjoy the service life work as hard as I can and leave at 22 as a Cpl there is no shame in that. Having done my bit for Queen and Country, medals on chest and pension in pocket.Thats my 2p worth anyway, and honestly well done to all those who have made it! I am happy I have just moved to Cyprus and due to an admin mess up I am getting three and a half years out here.

The quote above about how they naturally would favour someone on a green operational tour over someone in a cushy Dato role sucks ar$e. You can only do your job that you have been allocated by the drafter. You are either good at your job or not, whatever the job might be. Another point of note, everyone on here who is not happy at being a B grade keeps harping on about how many and how good they are at the secondary duties etc, not much mention of how good they are at the primary duty though!

Really, i think i mentioned more than enough to prove i am good at my job, i don't expect an exceptional unless i put the hard work in, i have enough pride left in me to know i don't want to be the one to let my mates down, and i will continue to give my all till the day i leave.

I'm going for one last push then i am going to chill out and relax if i don't pick up next year.

Green tours don't have to be 90SU, there are plenty of nomadic jobs out there, JSSU, Henlow etc...

Been there, done them...

All i know is i am good at my job, do extra stuff on the side and i haven't picked up, and if i don't pick up next year then i'll only have a year and a half left to push till i become a MR, at which point it will be me, myself and i.

:-)

You can only be good at the job you're posted to, whether it be blue or green (or mtp).

To the ones who have missed out, don't give up hope for next year. If you portray that feeling this reporting year you'll have no chance next. You can only hope that the ones who deserve it get a chance. Be that person.

On another note to a comment on here, if you haven't got it about you to pick up on ROs who don't write sufficient, correct and appropriate reports, then what makes you think JRs want you to write theirs?

It's your report so take responsibility for the content. Provide evidence and tick all the boxes the board want. If you don't then you have yourself to blame. If you can't provide evidence then you don't deserve it.

Again good luck to the few and best of luck to those others for next year.

fair enough

fair enough

You can't help some people, Knocked back promotion, that's a brave move.

If they are that god like then why would they want to stay in and move to a desk writing SJARs when they can get a proper job in the real world. Although I knew of 4 off the 2010 board who tooko it and were out later that year. it's a bit of extra cash, unless they want to move you.

I got told i might be in with a shout (mid 20's), but im not counting my chickens..so to speak, until the desk phone me. Im just going to accept anywhere they want to send me and be greatful although i do have my pref's but in this time of cutbacks etc i think you have to make the decision on your own personal circumstances and hope the chicken bones drop in the right place.

Chances are you will get moved though, unless your on the mighty 90. I can imagine that 2 of the Jobs filled are the new ones in warwickshire.
