Maa & trimble

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I have an ILM trimble device in my works van. It tells them everything. Speed, direction, driving like a knkb, where i am parked (down to about 5m). Its generally covered in a anti tamper paint and its its the fuse that does window wipers etc, its easier to drive 5 mile an hour under the limit and not like a dong rather than **** about with it. I would definitely argue the case on this topic though. As with everything in the modern air force. Its not about what youve done, its aboht what they can prove.

Me too. The process of having to provide the information may highlight what a flawed system Trimble is.

Can someone explain what added value that this Trimble thing brings to the RAF?

I don't see any benefits to be honest and I think my next FOI request will be to ask for the number of speeding tickets received in the 12 months prior to Trimble being fitted against the number received during the 12 months after.

I would also be interested in comparing the number of RTIs over both time periods.

I love the FOI system.

Trimble has teamed up with Ryder, which provides and manages the fleet of administrative vehicles for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) based in Germany.

As part of a four-year agreement, Ryder has equipped the MoD with Trimble's field service management solutions in an effort to manage its fleet utilisation more efficiently, reduce costs and improve driver safety.

Trimble was selected following Ryder's new contract in 2013 as the Service Provider for Project Roc, under which Ryder provides the overall fleet management and leasing services for approximately 1,500 of the MoD's administrative transport vehicles throughout Germany.

Trimble's GeoManager Fleet Management, Driver Safety and vehicle diagnostics solutions were selected following a recommendation from the MoD in the United Kingdom, where the benefits of the Trimble's fleet service management technology have been proven across its fleet of vehicles under Project Phoenix.

With the majority of vehicles driven across Europe as well as in Germany, Trimble GeoManager Fleet Management provides Ryder and the MoD with real-time visibility into day-to-day fleet operations, enabling them to identify, manage and improve key areas such as vehicle utilisation, maintenance planning and customer service to optimise the overall cost of transport by reducing fleet size, spot hire spend, fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

In addition, Ryder has implemented Trimble Driver Safety to enable the MoD to review driving behaviour across its fleet.

In-vehicle diagnostics has also been incorporated to provide real-time data so information can be drawn directly from the vehicle.

Diagnostics information includes receiving fault codes and alerts about engine-related issues, and obtaining real-time data on fuel consumption so exact fuel use can be monitored.

By efficiently managing its vehicles through vehicle diagnostics, Ryder and the MoD will be able to better manage their assets, extend vehicle life, and increase productivity and performance, including reducing the risk of mechanical failures.

"Ryder has a 25 year history of leasing vehicles to the MoD, a long-term success based on delivering outstanding customer service and providing the best technology available to support that is crucial," said Paul Probert, director, Dedicated Delivery Solutions at Ryder.

"Trimble's robust suite of scalable and comprehensive solutions was the natural first choice. Its capabilities will allow the MoD in Germany to accurately manage and report on all aspects of its fleet, leading to increased productivity and reduced operating costs."

John Cameron, general manager of Trimble's Field Service Management Division, said: "We are excited to partner with Ryder to assist the MoD in this extensive project.

"Along with providing state-of-the-art telematics solutions, Trimble is focused on delivering valued customer support.

“For Project Roc, we executed an extremely efficient rollout and equipped all 1,500 vehicles with Trimble technology in just three months."

FL. What you have posted is marketing drivel from the company itself.

I ask again. What added value does this Trimble thing bring to the RAF?

So we can't slam it into reverse at 50mph without some douch bag knowing about it anymore?

Well f@ck you very much. I'm well aware of what it is thanks. Merely trying to give you the official line that has been given to joe public as part of the whole force concept and defence management. Not my opinion or personal agenda...

Here's the main point amongst the 'drivel'...

As part of a four-year agreement, Ryder has equipped the MoD with Trimble's field service management solutions in an effort to manage its fleet utilisation more efficiently, reduce costs and improve driver safety.

How you interpret it is up to you.

That wasn't a dig at you FL. That was a dig at the marketing blurb which fails to explain the added value brought to the RAF by its implementation.

So the question still stands and I bet nobody can answer it.

So FL.

Are you one of these patronising Tw4ts in work that always spouts rhetorical patronising bull in work within earshot of your Superiors??

That's a bit unfair mate. FL probably can't answer the question because he's got to enforce policy and not deal with whether the system is right or wrong.

The real question is RJL have you or your newly acquired sidekick got anything of value to add at all? I'm yet to see anything. But don't worry yourself about it I wouldn't want you losing sleep over it. You've got enough on your mind balancing those chips on your shoulders...
