Redundancies

I can't believe the RAF have not done it in a more professional way...and took a leaf out of the X Factor:

Put the 2 groups on the stage and tell 'em.....I mean we woulda got Cowell in for this part...:PDT_Xtremez_14:

Great idea. It should be called:

"The X-Factor: Guess what, you ain't getting it no more!"

MWD, one of the things we now need to do is double check that the RFP haven't included any individuals who are subsequently pinged for an OOA to Afghan, etc. Hence the reason we got the letters last Thu.

Who does these checks at a Unit where the Chf Clk/Dep Chf Clk is in the frame?

Still no idea what the plans are at ISK for letting everyone know. Hopefully we'll get some info in the next week, we seem to get told everything else thats going on.
I'm just sick of all the waiting, if they know, why can't they just tell you!

Same for 'a secret phase 1 camp'.

Nothing has made it as far as my desk with regards to what's happening... I mean, it's not like the rest of my life depends on it, is it....?

Maybe it means you're in the clear?

1st of Sep all will be revealed, not before.

I'm not asking for any news 'up front' - I'm not that naive - but if those of us in the frame at least knew the mechanism of how we'd find out, no doubt that would at least ease some of the waiting anguish...

You will either be told by your OC Wg, or the Stn Cdr, in person and be handed your letter/pack up. Irrespective you will be told first thing on the 1st

I'm in!

Short of actually running over the hill to HQ Air, my application couldn't have gone in any quicker. Paperwork was in the post by 0805 the following morning!

Haven't heard of any others in my Trade that are going for it which (I hope) bodes well as they only want 35 of us

I'll be away on leave when the announcement is made so I'll be anxiously awaiting the ring of my phone.

As for what to do if I get out? Figure that out when it happens. All I care about is being able to be at home with the family rather than a flying visit 1 weekend a month

or when you go to work and they don't let you in through the gate....:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Picture the scene, an airman in scope approaches the main gate on the 1st of Sept, hoping for the best fearing the worst.

He notices the barrier is down oddly, and there is a filter lane open which he is waved in to by a fine member of the mighty MPGS.

He comes to a stop, winds his window down.

"Excuse me can I see your ID.......... thank you here's a brown envelope with your name on it, now Fook off and don’t darken our doorstep ever again!.......next"

The End!

Many a true word typed in jest....

And if you live in the block or mess.... a knock on your door an envelope handed over and a couple of packing boxes as a present!

And 24 hours to get the feck out...

Just had my wobbly on the phone to check my home number was correct in case he needs to call me next week as I'm on nights.

Thats me just a little on edge :PDT_Xtremez_42:

I left the RAF on the 1996 redundancy programme (I know that is 15 years ago and may have less relevance). However.... Fwiw... I made no preparation to leave the RAF whatsoever. I was stationed at Brueggen, which added an overseas dimension, and I elected to leave the RAF at the first opportunity when I found I had been selected for the 1996 tranche.

In retrospect: Resettlement training is worthwhile and paid for by the government. Take everything you can get. I didn't take any, to this day I can't explain why. Civilian placement (or whatever it is called) is useful. I did 2 weeks at Airworks in Bournemouth, didn't learn a thing, other than that Airworks paid s**t wages for permanent staff. Pick your Civ Placement carefully. All in all I was not prepared for civilian life. I've prospered, but it may have been more luck than judgement. Whatever the RAF offer, take. Staying a couple of months longer in RAF blue uniform may make a big difference to your future career prospects. Take all that the Govermnment offer to you in order to resettle.
